A recent initiative conceived by TEWFI community social workers is the formation of a children's parliament. Not only will this be an indirect means for conflict resolution and mediation, but it will also teach children about responsibility and their rights.
So far, initial meetings with children from surrounding villages have been successful. The next step is to conduct elections and nominate leaders (a Prime Minister, Financial Advisor, Sports Minister, Transport Minister, etc). A committee will then be formed, through which a whole range of activities will be organised, such as sporting and cultural activities, waste management schemes, and a dissemination of information about the Government schemes available to children.
