TEWFI has adopted the Alampara Fishing
Village, including local Government Primary School. TEWFI
currently pays for the salary of three teachers at the school,
and hopes to extend this in order to enrich the quality
of education provided to our children from UCH as well as
the local village children. TEWFI also plans to mobilize
people to provide voluntary services for the school on a
part-time or full-time basis.
In March this year TEWFI
opened a local Toilet Block at the primary school - the
only toilet available in the local area. This is one of
a range of community based health programs, wherein the
local villagers will be educated, trained and provided with
supplementary knowledge to lead their life in a healthy
and hygienic environment. TEWFI also operates
a Mobile Health Care Service for 10 villages in the region
to cater for their medical and psychological needs.
A Youth Group has been established in two
fishing villages, Alampara and Kadapakkam villages in the
Kadapakkam district. The village youth were encouraged to
set the target "Keeping the Environment Clean",
where their primary role is to keep the beach area, which
is also their dwelling place, free of litter. The youth
of the villages actively participated and extended their
support for this initiative.
The youth group was donated three Cricket Kits, sponsored
by Dr. Chandran, for actively participating in this cleaning
campaign. The youth group is now planning a series of tournaments
for the region. We are sure that these endeavors will enable
the youth to develop leadership skills and promote self-esteem.

The
generosity of TEWOAF supporters has also
resulted in the first Computer Centre in the region which
is utilized by everyone in the community - young and old.
