Domestic Violence Awareness

Domestic violence is prevalent in many parts of India. A recent survey suggested that between 30 and 60 percent of households in Chennai have a problem with domestic violence. One of the aims of the Post Tsunami Health Care and Research Project was to start to address this issue. A volunteer at TEWFI conceived a program to be run in conjunction with the International Foundation for Crime Prevention and Victim Care. A questionnaire was developed and distributed within the Kadapakkam Kuppam. Based on the results, educational sessions were conducted for women in the community in addition to female members of staff at the Uluru Children's Home and the Uluru Health Care Centre. In the future, further domestic violence awareness initiatives are planned, and will be held at the UNDP Women's Centre.

If you have some expertise in this area and would like to run a domestic violence program targeted at men within the community, please contact us.
