Before the inception of TEWFI and its efforts towards improving the standard of Education in the local community, the people lack interest in Education. The problem of drop out rates after primary schooling was higher in the community. The young people have lack confidence to liaise with Government officials and other educated people. They have to be dependant on the educated for everything. For example, since the young people are not able to read and write, they need some one to fill the applications form for opening the bank account, even to fill up the chalan to deposit and withdraw money. TEWFI identify those students and create awareness to make them to realize the importance of Education. A non-formal education program was initiated by TEWFI for their benefit. The aim of this programme is to assist local children and youth with literacy/numeracy and other functional skills such as opening bank account, filling up application forms, filling up bank chalan, etc. It is a comprehensive programme that helps the youth group to gain the confidence by providing them the essential knowledge for their life which they would have obtained from the School. The policy of Education is also relaxed in such a way that those who have failed in 10th and 12th Std can obtain a degree through Open Universities. TEWFI is generating awareness among the youth group about this policy and those who are interested to get degree are directed to approach open universities and other educational institutions.
