Access to drugs in urban areas and villages in India has become commonplace. How to use these drugs correctly however, is not clearly understood, even by educated people.
It is well known that medication given to adults is often used by them to give to their children and patients tend to self prescribe even in cases of serious illness. Furthermore many also purchase medication from local non-medical shops. This incorrect usage of drugs has caused many health and social problems.
As a result TEWFI has undertaken an awareness programme to educate the population on the correct usage of drugs in all the 24 villages of the Edaikazhinadu Town Panchayat, and so far the programme has reached 10 villages. The awareness programme is targeted primarily at the women of these villages because they care for the very young and the aged in their families. This programme is organized and run by the staff at the Uluru Health Care Centre with the help of the Social Workers and Volunteers at TEWFI.
