TEWFI has recently begun to extend its community development activities to people who are physically challenged. So far, TEWFI social workers have collected information on all physically challenged people in 6 villages in the Kadapakkam area, for a total of approximately 40 people. Information has been handed out to these people, regarding Government schemes available, and the Rights Information Act.
In the near future, TEWFI hopes to start vocational training with this group of people. One area is cycle repairs, for people with some mobility. The other area is training physically challenged people to work as snack vendors (e.g. ground nuts, bonda, vadai) on the beach, since tourists frequent the beach as well as fisherman.
