Sri Girish Karnad is one of India's foremost
playwrights and directors. A graduate of Karnataka University
in Dharwar, Sri Karnad is both a Rhodes and a Fulbright
Scholar. His articles and papers have been published nationally
and internationally.
Sri
Karnad was Director of the Film and Television Institute
of India, and Chairman of the Sangeet Natak Academy, India's
National Academy of the Performing Arts. He was till recently
the Director of the Nehru Centre, the cultural wing of the
Indian High Commission in London.
Sri Karnad has won numerous awards for his playwriting and
films. His significant contribution to the arts was recognized
in 1992 when the President of India honored him with the
Padma Bhushan award.
