Uluru Health Care Centre extensions

Since it was opened in 1998, not a single brick has been added to the original Uluru Health Care Centre (UHCC) despite ever-increasing patient numbers, and increasing activities and endeavours being run there. UHCC has reached a point now where it is time for TEWFI to address this current status by expanding, upgrading, and enhancing present facilities. This is imperative and needs to be addressed urgently to provide improved healthcare services to the community.

In particular, it currently takes 4 days for a microbiology sample, and 1 month for a pathology sample to be analysed, since patients must be referred to the pathology centre in Pondicherry. This is not a satisfactory time frame especially in cases where the doctor needs the results immediately to further treat the patient. There are no ultrasound, x-ray or radiology facilities in the neighbouring villages. The closest radiology facility is Pondicherry.

To address these concerns, specific plans have been developed for a pathology laboratory and a radiology laboratory to be built on the premises. Most importantly, a 10 bed Maternity Wing has been planned for UHCC, especially since TEWFI is committed to improving the lives of women and girls in the community. This wing will be dedicated to the late Mrs. Kamal Raya Reddy by her son Mr. Prabhasa Raya Reddy and his family. In the interim, funds are being raised to employ two full-time midwives who will provide vitally important ante- and post-natal education and care to women. In an area where infant mortality rates are high, the new Maternity Wing will greatly improve the health and wellbeing of newborns and their mothers.

If you would like to help bring these projects to reality, either through a donation or by lending us your expertise, please contact us.
