TEWFI is recognized as a Charitable Foundation by The Government of India and all donations to it are tax exempt under Sec.80G of the
Indian Income Tax Act. Allotted FCRA Registration is No:075900801
under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976

Dr. Natteri V. Chandran founded The East West Foundation of India (TEWFI) in 1992. Our patron is Sri Girish Karnad. We have supporters across the globe helping in a variety of ways, including donating funds and volunteering skills.

TEWFI began with the collection of medical and nursing textbooks, journals and medicines from overseas and their distribution to various charitable health care organizations in India. Then in 1994, in association with the Schizophrenia Care and Research Foundation (SCARF), we assisted with the construction of a psychiatric hospital for the poor and disadvantaged in Chennai.

Our two major projects since have been the creation of the Uluru Health Care Centre (UHCC) and the Uluru Children's Home (UCH) both located in Kadapakkam, a small fishing village south of Mahabalipuram, in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. We have also established community development programs concentrating on health, the environment and education in this region.

TEWFI operates solely on private donations. We have offices in India, Australia and the USA.

Apart from meeting its mission charter, it is envisaged that TEWFI will be a locus of charitable endeavor not only locally, but also by assisting sister charitable organizations around India.

It is hoped that with funding and purchase of suitable land, Uluru at Alampara will become an important training, seminar and conference centre, where experts from around the world can stay and donate their expertise and skills, and share them with their many colleagues in India whose attendance there will be funded by the Foundation.

This land will give the Foundation the opportunity to create an amazing informative and creative area near the Children's Home. It will also be a space where local, national and international professionals can share their knowledge and skills greatly impacting on the health and welfare of the community as a whole.

The land will enable TEWFI to build the following:

1. Library for the community that is home to an array of books, audiovisual and electronic material and an Internet café.

2. Community Hall for gatherings, talks and performances.

3. Open Air Theatre where children and adults can perform.

4. Playground and Multipurpose Field for athletics, cricket, hockey and soccer etc.

5. Teaching and Training Facilities.

6. Secondary and Trade/TAFE School

7. Art School, Studio and Gallery

8. Seminar and Conference Rooms.

9. Accommodation for visiting guests and seminar/conference attendees.
